My Farewell to PCMS
For those of you who have not heard the news regarding my upcoming move and promotion...
I would like to take this opportunity to let the Park
Crest community know how much I have loved serving their students. I am humbled
daily by the extraordinary blessing it has been to work alongside such a
dedicated staff, caring parent community, and awesome group of students. I have
watched these students begin to develop a firm understanding of how their lives
impact and intersect positively within the world around them. I have seen your
students take risks to reach out to new students, forgive one another for
wrongs done to them unintentionally or otherwise, and see how far taking
responsibility goes with adults and their peers. I have seen parents and
teachers partner together in a united front to ensure their students would not
fail, avoid taking responsibility for their actions, and were successful.
I have loved and learned so much from the journey with
each of your these past two-years! Nevertheless, I have some bitter-sweet news
to share with you. As many of you know, my husband moved back to Chicago at the
start of the school year. Just recently, I accepted the head principal position
of a middle school campus in North Chicago. While I am thrilled about the
position, being close to my husband, and the many experiences I have had here
that I will use everyday up there, I am deeply saddened to leave this
community. Your students are treasures, and your unrelenting advocacy for them
has been a beautiful gift I will keep with me.
I would love to stay in touch, so please do not hesitate
to reach out!

End of Year Trips 2013-2014
Please see the attached power point for information regarding this year's End of the Year trip. Like last year, I will schedule to have this information reposted every week.
Closer to the end of April, your daughter/son will bring home a permission form. At this point, however, we are not sending them out because we have so many other things going on...STAAR, for example.

Skateboards
Please help your daughter/son follow the school expectations regarding skateboards if she/he brings one to campus. Skateboards need to be locked up in the front of the school like bikes. The racks in the front are equipped to hold skateboards with a lock.
Skateboards are no longer going to be held by teachers in their classrooms. If they are seen in the hall, they will be held until Spring Break. If they are taken up after Spring Break, they will be kept until the end of the school year.

Mock STAAR Writing Test
The first of several Mock STAAR tests is over! I want to let you know how much I appreciate your efforts to have your daughter/son to school- on time and prepared!! Thank you.
Missing assessment days is very difficult on students. It creates additional and unnecessary stress for them, so even though they will never tell you, they appreciate it too.
Students were well behaved during the testing environment. After lunch, we took a long and extended recess- here's a fun pic showing how we refresh after a 4- hour testing session.

Box Top Collection and Recess
We are collecting Box Tops the week of January 27-31st. Students can earn a recess on January 31st if they bring in 5 Box Tops and use electronics during lunchtime on February 3rd if they bring in 10 Box Tops!
Semester II
My goodness! Last semester was a busy one for me both professionally and personally. I am sure this is true for each of you too.
Personally, we had some great medical breakthroughs for my son in late August, and my husband received a promotion that moved him back to Chicago in September. Professionally, I have been blessed to be able to work with an amazing group of 7th grade teachers who analyze testing data and plan together daily to develop effective and engaging lessons. I get to collaborate alongside a dynamic Administration and leadership team to implement systems to ensure the success and safety of each your students. And I get to continuously partner with you to ensure we are fostering an environment that holistically addresses the needs of your students.
There are a number of big items happening during Semester 2; I want you to be aware of them early on. Please read below and add to your personal calendar so we can ensure success for the students.
(On STAAR Shutdown- practice test days- and STAAR testing days, we are going to make a BIG ask that all the students attend school. If they are just battling a sore throat, sniffles, or stomach ache but they do not have a fever, send them to school. Making up major tests is even more stressful on the students than just taking it with their peers).
IMPORTANT DATES:

2/26 7th Grade Math Shutdown
